For the 2011 crusie season, cruise lines calling at Copenhagen port will soon be able to print airline boarding passes and check in luggage through to their final destination.

The initiative received approval from the Danish authorities earlier this month and is expected to see take up by cruise lines shortly.

This means that passengers can leave their bags outside their staterooms and the next time they see them will be when they arrive at the end of their flight. The idea is to maximise your time spent before returing home.

Holland America Line launched what it’s calling ‘Stateroom Direct Service,’ giving clients immediate access to their rooms upon embarkation.

Under the program, your stateroom will be ready as early as 11:30 a.m., and you will no longer have to check your carry-on bags and wait in public areas while rooms are being prepared.

Additionally, clients will receive their luggage earlier. Also you will have the opportunity to eat lunch at leisure in the Lido restaurants, which offer full buffets.

Chris and I just returned from a ten night Pacific Coastal Cruise aboard Regent Seven Seas Voyager. This was my FIRST time sailing with RSSC. We began in Costa Rica, visited many ports in Mexico (VERY WARM WEATHER - YEAH) and sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge to compete a very lovely cruise.

I can personally tell you when RSSC says, "IT'S ALL INCLUDED" - that is the truth 100%. We selected a few of their FREE shore excursions which were operated better than some we have paid money for. If you are wondering how good the food is - I did not go hungry. I was never far from a drink. The service staff was very accommodating to our every wish.

There is so much more I could expound on, but I suggest calling me to book your RSSC cruise.

Seabourn Cruise Line has just came out with an extension of 'Seabourn Value Fares,’ previously offered on all 2011 cruises to the first quarter of 2012, offering savings up to 65%.

Client must book by March 31, 2011, after which the prices are subject to rise.

Seabourn Value Fares start at $2,399 per person for a seven-day cruise. Prices vary by itinerary and apply to all worldwide voyages for fall 2011 and winter 2012.

Tonight was our last night aboard Celebrity Eclipse. For dinner, we were invited to the Tuscan Grille for a private dinner. Great menu featuring Steak Tartar, Kobe beef meatballs and for dessert - wait? Are you ready? Chocolate Fondue with a big SPOON!

This entire two days were full of great experiences that if I were you reading this blog, would call me to book a cabin aboard a Solstice Ship from Celebrity Cruises.

Spending the entire day at sea aboard Celebrity Eclipse. Sunshine and smooth waters make for a perfect day. What else could add to this pure bliss? Getting invited to the newest restaurant aboard ship for a PRIVATE gathering with the executive chef!

We just came back from a 45 minute presentation in the restaurant called QSINE. That's how it's spelled..

To begin. The menus are handed to to - are loaded on an IPAD. REALLY!

Your fun is just starting. The food creations you will eat are meant to make the most of your culinary evening. I will post a copy of the menu later, but my favorite was; spring rolls. Why? They were delivered on a plate that had springs for holders! Trust me, you have to see it to believe it. We have photos to prove! They will be uploaded later this week.

Just enjoyed a fantastic dinner in the Moonlight Sonata Restaurant. Not one choice I made was less than PERFECT! Topped if off with what else - CHOCOLATE!

Then went to the show lounge. Saw the production called EDGE! One of the best shows I have ever seen aboard a ship or for that matter on land. Great music, great dancing and what a light show to boot..

Now off to see other night life....Stay tuned...

Here I sit aboard Celebrity Eclipse, port of Miami waiting for the two day cruise to nowhere to begin. two years ago I had the pleasure to sail aboard Celebrity Solstice and fell in love with classy ship. Well, Celebrity Eclipse is like coming home again!

Her style and personality grab you. Not often does a feeling of style "hit" you at the start, but aboard Celebrity Eclipse - it does.

There is so much space to roam about, yet you never get the crowded feeling of so many aboard ship.

I am off to explore more and report back....stay tuned!

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line announced that Allure of the Seas will sport the first Starbucks-branded outlet on a ship in its Royal Promenade.

The global coffee giant signed an agreement so Allure of the Seas can brew made-to-order espresso beverages and Frappuccino blended beverages.

Baristas will offer signature & seasonal beverages and food, as well as the complete line of Starbucks VIA Ready Brew products, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, based on a la carte pricing.

Disney Cruise Line is pulling out all the stops with a fresh, characteristically lavish production, ‘Disney’s Believe,’ for the new Disney Dream. There are more than 20 Disney characters and the elaborate stagecraft includes 300 costumes and new projection technology. Genie from ‘Aladdin’ plays a key role, Mary Poppins makes an appearance and Peter Pan is not the only character who flies. It all combines into what will be the grand finale production that packs an emotional punch with the story of a workaholic scientist who comes to believe in magic through the amazing events on the day of his daughter’s birthday. ‘Disney’s Believe’ joins two other shows in the 1,340-seat Walt Disney Theatre: ‘Villains Tonight!,’ which premiered last spring on the classic DCL ships, and ‘The Golden Mickeys,’ with ‘new glitz and glamour’ for Disney Dream.

For Disney Dream, the line is also tweaking its pirate deck party, a once-per-cruise extravaganza that culminates with fireworks. The newly segmented event kicks off in the early evening with ‘Mickey’s Pirates,’ aimed at children, capped by ‘Buccaneer Blast,’ with an enhanced pyrotechnic show. Starting at around 10 p.m., Club Pirate will be ‘an edgier, more adult party,’ with an appearance by Capt. Jack Sparrow from Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films.

Can you beielve that just months after revealing plans for an iLounge with MacBook workstations on board the new Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Cruises said the response has been so positive that iLounges are going onto two more ships.

Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Summit will get their iLounges next month. Each consists of a lounge for checking email, retaining social media connections and printing boarding passes; a retail space offer MacBooks, iPods and accessories; and an enrichment center where certified staff will give tips on Mac and iPod use.

Every Crystal World Cruise features two exclusive shoreside events for those taking the full World Cruise. This year we were quite fortunate to take part in both of these which have given us memories to cherish for a long time.

The first one was to a race track in Abu Dhabi called the Yas Marina Circuit Formula 1 racing arena. Not having experienced much in the way of racing, this was unique for us. Not only did our motor coach drive us around the whole track (quite slowly of course) but we got to see some actual demonstrations from professional drivers. We enjoyed our drinks and canapés while we watched them zoom by. What Fun!

The second event was truly the highlight of our cruise. We got to pay a visit to Israel’s 2,000 year old Bell Caves. Just like you probably have not heard of them, we had not either. The Bell Caves are actually man made quarries which supplied building materials to the people who lived there at Beit Guvrin during the early years of the Common Era and the people who dug these caves also had as many purposes for them as you can think of. The workers would first dig a narrow hole in the hard rock layer and soon reached the soft chalk layer. As they dug deeper they widened the base of the caves, thus making them bell-shaped with a narrow opening on top. We could see these “holes” to the sky in each cave that we visited.

We left the ship at 5:30 PM and drove for 1 hour. From there we had to walk about 7 minutes through a lovely candlelit park lined with various trees to reach the cave area. When we entered the first cave, we felt like it was something out of Disneyland. The sides are rather smooth and were lightly and colorfully illuminated and it hardly looked real but it was. There was a small orchestra playing while we were served wine, orange juice, and lemonade along with 3 different canapés. We were welcomed by the senior deputy director-general of the Israel Ministry of Tourism and the ship’s Captain. We all thought this was it and we were delighted with the fact that a buffet was being set up for us on board ship when we were scheduled to return after 10 pm.

THEN an announcement was made to move to the next venue as a curtain was parted and we proceeded to the next massive cave where long dining room tables and elaborate candelabras were set up for us. As we all sat down, plates of delicious food were put on the table for us to enjoy along with more wine and soft drinks. Skewers of chicken, salads, vegetables (you name it, it was there) and we finished with delicious desserts of fruits and puddings. There was plenty of bread and even Matzohs since Passover had just begun. Who needed the ship’s buffet after all this.

While we were eating and drinking, we were treated to several live performances including traditional Israeli drummers and Fire dancers. The Black Hebrew Choir was fantastic and it was all topped off by David D’or, a well known Israeli opera singer thrilling us with his renditions of some beautiful Hebrew prayers as well as many folk songs. He finished with the traditional Hebrew Folk song “Havanna Gilah” and everyone got up and danced around in good spirits. Each of us was given a miniature drum as a souvenir along with a certificate certifying us as a Tourism Goodwill Ambassador for Israel. WHAT A GREAT EVENING!

It truly was a great evening and we were honored to be there since this is a site usually reserved only for religious visitors during this time of year. And it was one of the best Crystal events we ever attended. When we returned to the ship we all bypassed the lovely buffet that had been set up for us. We had no room for anything more. Hope one of these days you can experience this as well.

Crystal Cruises its expanding its fine dining options with ‘Perfect Choice Dining,’ a concept that maintains the line’s traditional dining experience while adding a new ‘open dining by reservation’ option.

Starting in 2011 and part of it's expansive online Priority Check-in and Planning Center (PCPC) launching in July, the Crystal Dining Room choices of classic main and late seating will be retained. But guests who choose the new open dining by reservation will be able to make nightly bookings in the main dining room in advance of their cruise.

This new option will satisfy the demand for open dining, an cruise industry trend for several years.

The State Department is proposing increases in the cost of passports. The proposed rule for the new passport fees was published in the Federal Register last month and will be followed by a public comment period of at least 30 days. The public will be notified of the date the new fees will go into effect. Adult first-time passports will increase from $95 plus the $25 execution fee to $135. The U.S. Passport Book and U.S. Passport Card for adults are valid for 10 years.

The proposed schedule of fees for passport application services is as follows:

* Total Cost: $135 for a first-time U.S. Passport Book for adults (age 16 and over)
* Total Cost: $110 for U.S. Passport Book renewal (age 16 and over only)
* Total Cost: $105 for a U.S. Passport Book for minors (under age 16)
* Total Cost: $55 for a first-time U.S. Passport Card for adults (age 16 and over)
* Total Cost: $30 for a U.S. Passport Card for adults (age 16 and over) who currently hold a fully valid U.S. Passport
* Total Cost: $40 for a U.S. Passport Card for minors (under age 16)
* Total Cost: $82 for additional visa pages

The fee for expedited service will remain $60.

The proposed passport “Schedule of Fees” is based on a Cost of Service Study conducted in June 2009. “It’s the most detailed study the Department of State has ever conducted of its for-fee services, and represents a cost correction from the last update of the Schedule of Fees four years ago,” the State Deoartment says.

Passport application fees are not only used to cover the costs of producing a U.S. Passport Book or Passport Card. Passport fees also cover the costs of providing emergency services for American citizens overseas in crisis situations, such as the current earthquake disaster in Haiti, helping Americans who have been the victims of crime while traveling or living abroad, and providing support to the families of American citizens who have died overseas, State says.

Royal Caribbean International instituted Daily Reservations, an online system for clients enrolled in "My Time Dining.:"

You can make nightly reservations in the main dining room and include other guests at your table.

Tables for two to 10 are offered.

Guests can access, request and review their Daily Reservations in advance of sailing through the Pre-Cruise Planner or Cruise Enhancements section of RoyalCaribbean.com.

Daily Reservations are currently available for Oasis of the Seas and will be deployed on all their ship throughout the spring.

Princess Cruises Leads the Way - ONCE AGAIN!

Reviving a tradition that vanished years ago with the onset of tighter security procedures, Princess Cruises is debuting a program to give passengers the opportunity to invite their friends and family aboard ship on embarkation day.

Princess is packaging a ‘Bon Voyage Experience,’ complete with lunch in the dining room and a ship tour, for $39 per person. The price can be applied to a future cruise.

Clients can extend an invitation to their guests to join them on board during sailing day for a four-course dining room lunch with wine, a ship tour and a souvenir photo. Participants get priority embarkation and will be able to spend approximately four hours together on the ship prior to sailing.

The number of guests who will be able to participate in the ‘Bon Voyage Experience’ on any given embarkation day will be approximately 50.

Europe - Carnival - NEW SHP - 2011 YES!

The new Carnival Magic will debut with seven-, nine- and 12-day Mediterranean cruises round-trip from Barcelona from May to October 2011.

This marks Carnival Cruise Lines’ first full season of Mediterranean cruises in three years, as well as the first time the line has homeported a ship in Barcelona.

Carnival is offering an exclusive pre-sale for past customers from today until Jan. 25, including free two-category upgrades and pricing starting at $829 per person, double occupancy.

For customers new to Carnival, the line’s full range of cruise fares, including ‘Early Saver’ rates, will open on Jan. 26.

Carnival Magic’s 2011 Mediterranean schedule will encompass three seven-day departures, six nine-day cruises and eight 12-day voyages. A one-time nine-day sailing from Venice to Barcelona will operate May 1.

Each of the three itineraries starts and ends on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, which Carnival said reflects traditional vacation patterns and provides convenient opportunities for adding a pre- and post-cruise stay.

Seven-day cruises will visit Monte Carlo, Livorno, Civitavecchia, Naples and Messina. Nine-day cruises add Marseilles (a new port for Carnival) and Palma de Mallorca. The special nine-day cruise on May 1 will visit Dubrovnik, Messina, Naples, Civitavecchia, Livorno and Monte Carlo.

The 12-day voyages include Monte Carlo or Marseilles, Livorno, Civitavecchia, Naples, Dubrovnik (excluding the May 22 departure which visits Palma de Mallorca), Venice (overnight) and Messina.

Crystal Cruises is planning Passover seders as Crystal Serenity sails to Ashdod, Israel, and Crystal Symphony cruises New Zealand.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, there will be a seder plate blessed by a rabbi, along with a participatory recitation of the Passover Haggadah, sing-a-longs and a four-course holiday feast.

Crystal Serenity passengers will celebrate Passover March 30, on the ‘Modern & Ancient Marvels’ voyage of the world cruise from Dubai to Athens, while Crystal Symphony passengers celebrate April 1, at the start of their ‘Vineyards and Fiords’ cruise from Auckland to Sydney.

To accommodate Jewish guests disembarking Crystal Symphony’s previous cruise on the first day of Passover, a ceremony and feast will also be offered on March 29.

Kosher food selections are available throughout the Passover holiday.

San Francisco Here I come......Again!

Queen Victoria will make its maiden call to San Francisco on Jan. 27, 2010 making her inaugural visit in 2010.

Queen Victoria will stop in San Francisco as part of the first segment of its world cruise before continuing across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii.

Cunard said numerous observers are expected to view the ship’s arrival to Pier 35 at approximately 6:30 a.m. and the departure at 6 p.m. Vantage points include the areas to the north and south sides of the Golden Gate Bridge, Piers 45 and 39, Fort Mason, Aquatic Park and Crissy Field.

Disney's first new ship in 12 years, the Disney Dream, will include such innovative, family-friendly features as a massive 'water coaster' around its top deck -- a first at sea -- and an exclusive outdoor deck area for teens.

The 765-foot-long water coaster, dubbed AquaDuck, is unlike anything ever seen at sea. Using the same Master Blaster technology found at Disney theme parks, it will shoot riders upward and forward as they careen through a series of twists, turns and drops while riding an inflatable raft through a clear acrylic tube.

The outdoor deck area for teens, part of a private, swipe-card-accessed club area called Vibe, will have lounge chairs for sunbathing; two wading pools; fountains, pop jets and misters; and outdoor deck games such as ping-pong and foosball. It'll be located at the very front of the ship near the bow.

Like the 11-year-old Disney Magic, the Dream will echo early 20th century ships with a sleek bow and circular portholes, and it's over-riding design elements are Art Deco, says Dauberger. But a number of interior spaces will have a contemporary look.

Dining. Disney is sticking with the "rotational dining" concept it pioneered on its first two ships, where passengers and their wait staff move nightly between three main restaurants, but it plans new themes for two of the three eateries. One, to be called the Enchanted Garden, will transform from day to night as light fixtures "bloom" and change colors and the "sky" on the ceiling experiences a sunset (see photos above). The other, the Royal Palace, pictured to the left, is inspired by the classic Disney films Cinderella, Snow Whiteand the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty.

Like the earlier ships, the Dream also will have a signature specialty restaurant called Palo's featuring Northern Italian cuisine, an extensive wine list and high-end service.

Youth areas. The Dream will offer five elaborate and distinct youth spaces targeted at over-lapping age groups. Disney's Oceaneer Club, aimed at 3- to-10-year-olds, is home to everything from a stage for child-produced theatrical performances and storytelling sessions to a Toy Story-themed play area. Disney's Oceaneer Lab, pictured to the left and also aimed at the 3-to-10-year old crowd, offers everything from an arts-focused Animator's Studio to a sound studio where kids can create their own original tunes using song-making software.

In a new twist for Disney, the ship will offer a dedicated Tween club space called Edge. Aimed at children 11 to 13, it will be located in the forward funnel of the ship overlooking the pool deck. The Dream also will have a far larger teen area than on Disney's earlier ships. Dubbed Vibe, the 9,000-square-foot teen club (accessible by special key cards given to teens) will have a contemporary feel with trendy furniture, a fountain bar, a media room with games and movies, and a dance club area.

Crystal Cruises is offering numerous optional Crystal Adventures in 2010 that focus on destinations’ Jewish heritage. The excursions enable you to absorb a region’s diverse spiritual culture, explore Judaic history in the cities of Jerusalem, Berlin, Odessa, Rome, St. Petersburg, and even unexpected places like Stockholm, Dublin, Mumbai and Montevideo.

Many options in Jerusalem explore the Jewish Quarter; the Western Wall, the holiest of Jewish sites; Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes Remembrance Authority, dedicated to the history of Jews during the Holocaust period; and other locations.

Additionally, Jewish tours in Berlin include visits to Sachsenhausen Concentration camp, a prototype for all the camps that followed, and the Jewish Old Quarter and the New Synagogue, laid in 1988, exactly 50 years after the “Night of Broken Glass.” In Dublin, there is the Irish Jewish Museum, formerly a synagogue, opened by President Chaim Herzog, Israel’s Irish former leader.

In Montevideo, Uruguay, guests can visit the Sephardic and Ashkenazi synagogues, as well as the Holocaust memorial and a glimpse into modern-day Jewish life. In Rome, the Jewish Ghetto, issued by anti-Semitic Pope Paul IV in 1555, was isolated by walls until 1870.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is allowing passengers to dress more casually for dinner in 2010.

They said the relaxed the dress code as a result of guest feedback "convincingly" in favor of a less formal policy.

Every night, women may wear slacks with a blouse or sweater, or a dress. Men may wear slacks and a collared shirt. Sport jackets are optional. Jeans are still not allowed.

RSSC will have two optional formal evenings on cruises of at least 16 nights, but no such nights on shorter cruises.

Oceania Cruises announced its most extensive and exotic line-up of winter sailings to Asia, South America and the Caribbean, plus its first Africa voyages and 30 new ports, for 2010-2011.

Offered November 2010 through April 2011, Oceania’s winter collection features 30 new ports, including Cape Town, South Africa; Walvis Bay, Namibia; and Rangoon, Myanmar.

Nautica will focus on Asia with eight cruises, seven of them new. For the first time, the line will visit Africa, debuting a 30-day navigation from Istanbul to Cape Town followed by a 35-day cruise from Cape Town to Singapore via the Seychelles, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

In 2011, Insignia will operate all-new South America itineraries. Seven 12- to 22-day cruises visit Buenos Aires and coastal Brazil. A 22-day voyage includes the Antarctic Peninsula, Falkland Islands and Chilean Fjords.

Regatta’s annual ‘Amazon Adventure,’ a 24-day round-trip sailing from Miami, will add a second departure in mid-March. Also new are two, 10-day ‘Mayan Mystique’ cruises to Western Caribbean ports and a 14-day ‘Southern Treasures’ sailing, which combines the tropics, the Colonial South and Bermuda.

Disney Cruise Line will offer its first Alaska cruises during a four-month season of seven-night sailings aboard Disney Wonder in summer 2011. The ship will sail from Vancouver to Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway, with scenic cruising of Tracy Arm.

Before and after the Alaska season, Disney Wonder will operate previously announced seven-night Mexican Riviera cruises from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.

Alaska departures start May 3, with the last sailing on Aug. 30. Rates begin at $939 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.

Prior to repositioning to Alaska, Disney Wonder will sail a special 10-night Mexican Riviera voyage, including a stop at Manzanillo. A five- and six-night cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver, and Vancouver to Los Angeles, with first stops in San Francisco and Victoria, B.C.

To prepare for the Alaska deployment, a new venue called Outlook Café will be added to Disney Wonder. Located high atop Deck 10, the 2,500sq ft space will provide floor-to-ceiling, curved glass windows. A spiral staircase will connect Outlook Café with the existing Cove Café one deck below.

Just returned from one of the most exciting journeys to Alaska that I have ever done. Sailing aboard Silver Shadow for 12 days has to be the only way to go. Of all the ships that I have sailed on, very few have come close to this. Trust me when I say I know ships.

It has been almost 15 years since my last cruise aboard Silversea cruises. The only difference now versus then - A bigger ship and my lifestyle has slowed to where I can enjoy all the amenities they offer.

Aside from the cruise and all the gourmet food and service that is SECOND to NONE!The state of Alaska is so beautiful. For those of you who have been there, know what I am talking about, for those who want to go, you need to go!

Going by neighborhood, dining venues aboard Oasis of the Seas will include:

The Boardwalk will offer family favorite Johnny Rockets, as well as a new alternative the 50s style diner, the surf-themed Seafood Shack. Also, on the Boardwalk will be the Donut Shop, which will offer a rotating selection of 10 to 15 varieties of free donuts every day, as well as complimentary coffee. Also in the Boardwalk will be the Boardwalk Bar, a full-scale bar that will also offer salads and sandwiches, and the 50s-styled Ice-Cream Parlour, which will offer up to 15 different flavors.

Five dining options will be offered in Central Park, including the semi-formal 150 Central Park, the Oasis of the Seas' most exclusive dining venue. Also in Central Park will be the line's signature steakhouse Chops Grill and a new Tuscan eatery, Giovanni's Table, which will offer family style Italian dining. Park Café will be a quick service concept offering sandwiches, made to order salads, soups, full meals and crepes on certain days. Central Park also will feature the familiar Vintages wine bar, but new to the Oasis, Vintages will offer a tapas menu, perfect for wine pairings.

On the Royal Promenade, guests will find Café Promenade, which offers coffees, pastries and sandwiches, as well as Sorrento's, which offers pizza on most Royal Caribbean ships. However, on Oasis, Sorrentos will offer made to order pizzas so cruisers can choose from a selection of toppings and watch as a chef makes the pizza on the spot.

For those seeking healthy dining options, the Solarium Bistro will be offered in the Pool & Sports Zone. Here, guests will find healthy buffet selections for breakfast and lunch, and health food menu for dinner. All items served in the Solarium Bistro will be 500 calories or less. Also in the Pool & Sports Zone, will be Wipeout Café, which will offer all-day soft serve ice-cream, as well as hamburgers, hot dogs and other quick service sandwiches.

Vitality Café will be found in the Vitality Zone and will offer healthy snack items such as wraps, fruits, juices, smoothies, energy drinks and more.

Other dining venues found onboard, which will not be linked to a specific neighborhood, will be Windjammer Marketplace and Izumi Asian Cuisine. While Windjammer is an old favorite for RCI guests, Izumi is a new concept that will offer Japanese cuisine, as well as a sushi bar.

While reservations are not required for any of the specialty restaurants, Goldstein does recommend them. In doing so, he announced that as of July 9, guests will be able to go online before their cruise and make reservations for any of the specialty dining venues available on the Oasis.

My Time Dining -

As part of My Time Dining guests can choose when they want to dine, as well as request a specific waiter or table. One entire deck of the Main Dining Room will be dedicated to guests who choose My Time Dining. As of May 1, guests can choose My Time Dining at the time of booking.

(Tribune Media Services) -- When Martha Schmidt tries to cancel her airline tickets, her online agent promises to help her reuse the credit quickly. But after eight hours on the phone and an email promising a response "within four to eight hours" she feels as if she's being stonewalled. Are her tickets missing in action?

Q: I've been having some problems with an airline reservation, and was wondering if you could help me. I recently had to cancel a reservation I had made through Travelocity. I spent eight hours on the phone with their incompetent customer service agents trying to use the credit I received to reschedule another flight on the same airline.

Travelocity finally gave me a flight and a confirmation number, but when I checked the airline Web site, it hadn't been ticketed yet. I don't want to get to the airport and find we have no tickets and can't fly. I spoke to Travelocity about this again last night, and was promised an email "within four to eight hours" with a resolution. I haven't received a response.

Travelocity has charged my credit card $2,700 for tickets I don't have. I can't deal with its customer service department again. I'm at my wits end. Help!

A: Travelocity should have changed your reservation quickly instead of keeping you on the phone for eight hours. When it promised you a response within four hours, it should have given you one.

At this point in my answer, I normally outline Travelocity's missteps and then suggest a few things you might have done differently. But let me start with you this time.

Based on your letter -- the fact that you preferred talking to someone on the phone instead of dealing with a Web site -- I think you may have booked your airline tickets through the wrong company. Travelocity is an online travel agency. That means for best results, reserve your trip through Travelocity.com.

You could have canceled your reservation online by clicking on the "Your Account" link at the top of the home page, logging in, selecting "Check Current Reservation" and then clicking "Cancel Reservation."

If you don't want to do that, why not use a travel agent next time? Sure, a human agent might charge a booking fee, and may not always have the lowest price, but that person will be there when you need to make a change. You will almost certainly not have to talk to a company representative for eight hours.

That's not to say anything Travelocity did was excusable. Its well-publicized "guarantee" would leave any reasonable traveler with the impression that problems are dealt with quickly.

"If something isn't right, don't let it ruin your trip," it says. "Call us immediately instead! We're here 24/7 to work with our partners to make it right, right away. Our customer care professionals are ready to help."

I guess it all depends what your definition of "right away" is.

I asked Travelocity to take another look at your case. When you first contacted Travelocity by phone to apply the unused tickets to a new itinerary, the company didn't receive a confirmation from the airline. Travelocity rebooked a similar itinerary with nonstop flights on a separate reservation, which accounted for the delay. "In the spirit of the Travelocity Guarantee, we waived our exchange fees on both bookings," a company representative told me.

Cruise lines are putting Mexico back on the charts following the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s decision late Friday to downgrade their recommendation against non-essential travel to Mexico. The advice, in effect since April 27 due to swine flu, has been changed to a ‘Travel Health Precaution for Mexico.’

Carnival Cruise Lines became the first cruise line to announce it would resume calls in Mexico. Royal Caribbean International closely followed.

‘This is very good news for Mexico and its port communities, as well as for Americans who have made plans to travel to Mexico,’ CLIA said in a statement. ‘While we appreciate and applaud today’s decision, we also urge cruise line passengers to follow CDC’s travel recommendations if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms or are at high risk from flu complications.’

CLIA added that its member lines will continue to use the enhanced health screening protocols announced on May 1 to guard against the spread of H1N1 flu. These require embarking passengers to complete a public health questionnaire prior to boarding, at any port.

Lines perform a secondary screening if a passenger reports flu-like symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose or sore throat, or contact with a confirmed H1N1 flu case. Medical personnel at each line are making case by case decisions regarding the boarding of these passengers.

‘We are very pleased to resume our previous itineraries to Mexico, one of the cruise industry’s most popular destinations, and we thank those guests who were impacted by the modified schedules in recent weeks for their understanding and patience,’ said Carnival president and ceo Gerry Cahill.

Royal Caribbean International said it will resume calls in Cozumel beginning with sailings that depart on or after May 24. The move affects Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas.

Los Angeles-based Mariner of the Seas will continue its modified Pacific Northwest itinerary through the June 14 sailing.

American Airlines says it will let frequent fliers use miles to book one-way trips for half the miles of a round trip.

The airline will also let customers redeem miles to fly one leg of a round trip in first-class and fewer miles to fly in coach on the other leg. Officials at American, which developed the first frequent-flier program nearly three decades ago, plans to announce the changes Monday and put them into effect shortly.

Cruise Lines International Association members have begun screening passengers for the H1N1 virus using a standardized questionnaire.

Under the new protocols, passengers must complete and sign a written form prior to embarking a CLIA member line ship anywhere in the world.

The standardized, global precautions are being undertaken because the swine flu virus has moved beyond Mexico. Earlier this week, the World Health Organization noted the virus is already widespread.

Under the CLIA lines’ enhanced screening protocol, a secondary screening will be conducted if a passenger reports flu-like symptoms including fever, cough, runny nose or sore throat. Medical personnel at each line will decide, on a case by case basis, whether to allow boarding.

Passengers will not be permitted to travel if they exhibit influenza-like-illness or meet the suspect case conditions for H1N1 as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The cruise industry is in active talks with US health officials to develop a standardized screening process aimed at detecting passengers with symptoms of swine flu as a precautionary measure for keeping ship travel safe.

Until now, the focus has been on cruise ships temporarily dropping calls in Mexico. However, the issue grew much wider with yesterday’s World Health Tourism Organization alert to all countries to activate their pandemic preparedness plans.

No cases of swine flu have been reported on cruise ships.

Effective for tickets issued on or after April 23 for travel on or after July 9, US Airways will charge an additional $5 fee to check a bag at the airport, resulting in a $20 fee for the first checked bag and a $30 fee for second checked bag. Bags checked-in online will pay $15 for their first checked bag and $25 for their second.

Delta’s and Northwest’s baggage policies are aligned. As a result, Delta’s new $50 second bag fee for international travel also applies to Northwest flights.

Effective for tickets issued May 1, 2009 for travel on or after July 7, 2009, Alaska/Horizon will charge $15 for the first checked bag.

Some airlines do not charge baggage fees and the out-of-pocket difference for a family of four traveling on an airline that charges fees could total as much as $400 if each traveler checks two bags.

Today - Carnival Cruise Line announced the launch of a new shipboard dining program called “Your Choice Dining.”

Your Choice Dining provides a selection of three different dinner seating options. In addition to Early and Late assigned seating, Carnival is rolling out “Your Time” open seating to accommodate individual guest preferences.

Clients can choose early dining at 6pm, late dining at 8:15 pm or “Your Time” open seating. “Your Time” may dine any time between 5:45pm and 9:30pm.

“Your Time” open seating is available on five ships and will be implemented one vessel at a time over the next several months as modifications in dining room table configurations are completed on each ship.

I had the good fortune to sail aboard Carnival Cruises new Carnival Splendor a week ago. Two days of "fun" sailing from San Francisco to the open seas and back to San Francisco. Best part - NO FLYING!

If you are a fan of the color PINK, this ship is for you. Am told that when she was delivered, more pink was designed, then a vote was taking and some of the pink was scaled back. Trust me, I like pink, but with limits!

Carnival Spleandor will be sailing the Mexican Riviera. For the fist time, the west coast get a crack at having a NEW ship to sell. Carnival delivers the service, prepares the food and has the entertainment to make you forget all the PINK!

Don't be one of those who remember Carnival as a PARTY BOAT - It is far from that, one of the most well designed ships afloat. Don't take my word for it - try it!

Carnival and it's families of cruise lines will suspend fuel supplements for its six North American brands effective for voyages departing on or after Dec. 17.

This applies to Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises and The Yachts of Seabourn.

A refund of the supplement will be made in the form of a shipboard credit for bookings within the final payment period for departures on or after Dec. 17. Bookings outside of the final payment period for departures on or after that date will be adjusted to remove the supplement.

Carnival noted it may re-instate the supplement of up to $9 per person, per day (except for Seabourn, which would be up to $15 per person, per day) should the price of light sweet crude oil according to the New York Mercantile Exchange Index rise above $70 per barrel.

The Retreat

Holland America Line plans to transform the aft Lido Decks into resort-style pool areas called THE RETREAT. Five ships will be fitted with the focus being a shallow pool area with 44 lounge chairs and built-in benches.

The area is slated for Statendam, Maasdam, Ryndam, Veendam and Rotterdam.

The Retreat’s pool will be divided into three main sections separated by low, curving walls. The middle section is 16 inches deep so passengers can sit on benches in the water. The two side sections will place lounge chairs in eight inches of water. Waterfalls and spouts will enhance the décor. At one end of the pool will be a hot tub.

A pizzeria serving whole pies and slices and a stage will be added, along with a LED screen and sound system to be integrated into each ship’s infrastructure.

This continued phase of HAL’s Signature of Excellence upgrades is scheduled to begin with Veendam’s drydock in the spring, with completion on the Maasdam in early 2011.

Royal Caribbean started new procedures aimed at improving disembarkation and providing an easier transition for passengers on consecutive cruises.

On day of departure, passengers will have extended access to their staterooms, as well as continued in-room TV entertainment. They also will receive an ‘As You Depart’ notice that communicates the location of departure lounges offering refreshments and light entertainment.

Among the lounges will be a dedicated Family Zone, which will include refreshments, toys and games for younger cruisers. Suite passengers, meanwhile, will get an exclusive continental breakfast.

Additionally, shipwide public announcements will be minimized to make a more relaxing atmosphere, with nearly all departure updates limited to the departure lounges and via in-room TV programming.

Passengers may also choose express departure, a window of time as soon as the ship is cleared when they can hand carry their own luggage.

Clients on consecutive cruises will receive a ‘sneak peek’ Compass (daily program) with an overview of the following sailing. Additional personalized services and attention will be provided.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises detailed a new alternative dining venue, Prime 7, that will be added to Seven Seas Voyager and Seven Seas Mariner as part of the previously announced refurbishment.

The restaurant will be completed during scheduled drydocks in December for Seven Seas Voyager and January for Seven Seas Mariner.

RSSC says its Prime 7 will be a glamorous, contemporary interpretation of a classic American steakhouse with a menu of prime-aged steaks, chops and fresh seafood and poultry.

Appetizers will include a trio of steak tartares and foie gras sliders along with traditional favorites such as oysters Rockefeller and crab cake.

Among the main courses are eight USDA Prime, dry-aged steaks, ranging from a 32-ounce Porterhouse, carved tableside, to prime rib, filet mignon and surf & turf with Canadian cold water lobster tail or Alaskan king crab. Non-beef specialties include New Zealand double cut lamb chops, double cut Kurobuta Berkshire pork chops, veal chop, oven-roasted organic half chicken, Alaskan king crab legs and Maine lobster.

Desserts include Chicago-style cheesecake with raspberry sauce, a 14-layer Valrhona chocolate cake with pistachio sauce and banana cream pie.

Each meal is accompanied by complimentary pairings of California white and red wines, supplemented by a list of American wines available for purchase by the glass.

Best news to come from this - Reservations are required, but there is no supplemental charge to dine at Prime 7.

I have just returned from sailing aboard STAR PRINCESS to Mexico for 10 days. Our group of over 100 who joined my wife and I had a very good time. There is something to be said for sailing in and out of San Francisco. I love to see the world, but sailing under the Golden Gate is awesome.

I highly suggest that sailing aboard a Princess ship is fantastic. I would say it's like your home away from home. Very easy going.

The movies under the stars was a big hit. Saw a few movies and even had POPCORN!

Next time any of you visit Puerto Vallarta, have lunch at Si Senor. One of the best Mexican restaurant's I've been too.

The Adventure Ocean youth program will be enhanced with new spaces such as Royal Babies and Tots nursery, a first for Royal Caribbean International. This colorful area will serve as a fully staffed nursery and a venue for play groups created by Fisher-Price and Crayola for babies and tots.

Within the Youth Zone, Kids Avenue will form the main promenade for young cruisers to access the various Adventure Ocean areas. Crayola Arts and crafts activities, scavenger hunts, talent shows and other scheduled and guided activities will be offered to three age groups, each with its own space: Aquanauts, ages 3 to 5; Explorers, ages 6 to 8; and Voyagers, ages 9 to 11.

In addition, Oasis of the Seas will introduce new common play areas, including the Kids Arcade for video games; the Workshop, where families can learn scrapbooking or make jewelry; Imagination Studio, where children can explore color and imagination through Adventure Art by Crayola; a fully equipped lab for Adventure Science Lab; Play, a circular area where children can participate in sports and games; and Adventure Ocean Theater, with a stage and curtains, audience seating and production equipment.

Disney Cruise Line will sail the Disney Magic for an extended five-month summer season in 2010 to Europe.

Disney Magic will be sailing four, 10-night and four, 11-night cruises from Barcelona in April, May, August and September, and four, 12-night cruises in Northern Europe in June and July. Sailing from Dover, the Magic will call at the Nordic capitals as well as St. Petersburg, Tallin and Warnemunde.

Princess Cruises has started new ways for passengers to stay active on their cruise vacation – including an in-room fitness program, yoga classes for kids and teens, and new Lotus Spa classes that focus on core, balance and strength exercises.

The in-room Fitness@Sea program is hosted by celebrity trainer Gillian Clark, who leads nine classes shown exclusively on the line’s Wellness Channel. The classes range from core strengthening to cardio training. On ships with ‘Movies Under the Stars,’ Princess airs the morning sessions on its poolside screens so passengers can work out in a group setting in the open air.

In addition, yoga for kids and teens will be presented in free, fun, half- to full-hour courses in the youth and teen centers.

The Lotus Spa’s new Core.Balance.Strength program focuses on these three fitness components, and will be available for a fee. An element of the strength aspect of the program is Tour de Spin, which will benefit LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

American Airlines offers Internet Service

For $12.95, passengers on AA flights using its Boeing 767-200 will be able to surf the Net, check e-mail, instant message and access corporate VPN accounts using the system by Aircell LLC.

The ground-based system – called GoGo – won't enable any voice-based functions.
American says it will test GoGo on its fleet of 15 767-200s, which are used primarily on transcontinental flights, for three to six months.

Assuming everything goes well, the carrier may expand to the rest of its fleet.

ORIENT LINES RE-BORN; MARCO POLO II

The new owners of Orient Lines have acquired Maxim Gorkiy, which will be renamed Marco Polo II and embark on its maiden voyage from Barcelona April 15.

Wayne Heller, who bought the rights to Orient Lines earlier this year, said his company will do everything to recreate the original concept, including longer, destination-intensive itineraries, a comprehensive enrichment program and value for money.

The tradition continues with the hiring of a Filipino crew and reinstating the crew show that always ranked as ships top-rated entertainment.

Marco Polo II will carry 650 passengers and offer multiple, open-seating dining venues. The ship is ice-classed and able to operate in polar waters.

Polo Club members will keep their standing with the new Orient Lines.

Cunard Line forged a partnership with The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) as a highlight of ‘Cunard Insights,’ the shipboard enrichment program.

RAS Fellows are scheduled to join Queen Mary 2’s Atlantic crossings and Caribbean voyages and Queen Victoria’s Mediterranean sailings.

RAS will offer night sky displays of constellations and star navigation instruction, and highlight astronomical points of interest using the SkyScan software in the planetarium on board Queen Mary 2.

Nighttime ‘star parties’ on deck, informal discussion groups and formal lectures with leading astronomers will also be part of the program.

Princess Cruises passengers are now using Nintendo’s new Wii Fit system, just added the Wii Fit balance games following their U.S. debut last month.

Family competitions will be held on board at venues including the Movies Under the Stars poolside screens, found on five ships. Youth and teen centers will also offer younger cruisers the opportunity to participate in Wii Fit activities.

NCL earlier this month announced it would implement Wii Fit on its ships in late July or early August.

American Airlines Charges for Second Bag

American is following a host of other airlines in charging clients $25 for a second checked bag.

This is another way to raise money in areas beyond fare increases.

American Airlines expects only 4% of passengers who check a second bag to pay the fee. Those exempted include frequent fliers who have reached certain status levels and buyers of full-fare tickets. International flights also are excluded from charging the fee.

Those who purchase a domestic economy tickets would be subject to the fee - will have to pay if their ticket-purchase date is on or after May 12.

With today's life style and our instant access to information, what better way to share with you some news. Right now I am in Ixtapa, Mexico at Club Med. They have just re-opened Club Med Ixtapa Pacific. What a fantastic resort. What ever one might think about Club Med, forget about it. They have taken themselves to a new level. As I sit in my room, looking at the blue sky and clam ocean, you might ask - why is he in the room and not outside enjoying all this? Good question and I might just have to end now and come back..

No, do not worry there is plenty to go around. I needed to share with everyone how nice of a place this all-inclusive resort is. If you like to participate in various activities your in heaven. If like me, just want to kick back and take it all in, welcome home...

I have only been here two days and could stay for a long time. The quality of food and selection is almost second to none. You can not go hungry or say, "there is nothing for me to eat". Kids and adults have all they want anytime..

Each room I have seen is spacious and offers many amenities to make your stay at Club med perfect.

Once I return, I will share my photos to prove my point... Well now it's off to the beach and soak in some sun so my wife will think I was not at the computer all day....

Celebrity Revamps Smoking Policy

Cruisers may praise the virtues of "sea air," but what matters more is clean air. Celebrity is taking action. Starting October 1, 2008, guests will enjoy fresher air as a result of a new policy that disallows smoking in Celebrity's staterooms or on stateroom verandas. The policy also will reduce the number of public areas in which guests can smoke onboard.

"We are proud to be the first premium cruise line to set a new standard toward creating an environment of cleaner air on our ships," said Celebrity Cruises President & CEO Dan Hanrahan. "We pay careful attention to what our guests have to say, and approximately 90 percent of them have told us they are non-smokers. By increasing the number of smoke-free areas onboard while still designating areas for those who smoke, our aim is to make the onboard experience as pleasant as possible for all of our guests."

Violations to Celebrity's smoking policy may result in a $250 cleaning fee charged to the guest's onboard account.

Princess scores live opera transmission - Princess Cruises'16 ships will become the first to broadcast a live performance from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

The presentation of Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’ is scheduled for Saturday as part of the Met’s series of eight opera performances transmitted live via satellite to movie theaters around the world.

Princess ships equipped with Movies Under the Stars, clients can watch the production on giant poolside LED screens. Other ships will show the broadcast in the Princess Theater.

Homeland Security Land-Sea Final Rule

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Department of State (DOS) announced today the final rule for the land and sea portion of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), a core 9/11 Commission recommendation. The WHTI final rule requires travelers to present a passport or other approved secure document denoting citizenship and identity for all land and sea travel into the United States. WHTI establishes document requirements for travelers entering the United States who were previously exempt, including citizens of the U.S., Canada and Bermuda. These document requirements will be effective June 1, 2009.

"We are on course to implement and enforce the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative which is an important step forward in securing the homeland," said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff. "Limiting and standardizing the types of documents presented will result in a more secure and efficient border. We will continue to encourage cross-border travel and trade while at the same time decreasing identity theft and fraud."

DHS is publishing the WHTI land and sea final rule more than a year in advance of its implementation to give the public ample notice and time to obtain the WHTI-compliant documents they will need to enter or re-enter the United States on or after June 1, 2009.
Many cross-border travelers already have WHTI-compliant documents such as a Passport or a Trusted Traveler Card (NEXUS, SENTRI, and FAST), or a Washington State EDL. The Department of State is already accepting applications for the new Passport Cards and additional states and Canadian provinces will be issuing EDLs in the next several months—all of which are options specifically designed for land and sea border use.

This announcement comes two months after January 31, 2008, when DHS ended acceptance of oral declarations alone of identity and citizenship at the land borders. Since that time U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 19 and older have been asked to present proof of identity and citizenship. Children ages 18 and under are currently asked only to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.

The changes that took place in January marked the beginning of a transition period intended to prepare the public for WHTI implementation on June 1, 2009. This common sense approach is designed to lessen the impact on individuals and allow time for travelers to become accustomed to the change and obtain the appropriate documents.

Upon implementation of WHTI, travelers will be required to present a single WHTI-compliant document denoting both citizenship and identity when seeking entry into the United States through a land or sea border. Standardized, secure and reliable documentation will enable Customs and Border Protection officers to quickly and accurately identify travelers at land and sea ports of entry. The WHTI secure document requirement is already in place for all air travelers.

Crystal Cruises Chef Nobuyuki ‘Nobu’ Matsuhisa cruised aboard Crystal Symphony this week to open his new restaurants, Silk Road and The Sushi Bar.

Nobu joined the ship in Hong Kong to personally oversee the launch, which was commemorated with a traditional sake ceremony attended by Crystal Cruises president Gregg Michel and Crystal chairman Mitsutoshi Nawa.

During the cruise, Nobu-trained chefs showcased some of his most popular specialties at The Sushi Bar, including yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño and tuna tataki with ponzu sauce. Among the more than two dozen menu selections at Silk Road are Nobu-style lobster with truffle-yuzu sauce, saikyo miso black cod and beef with three distinctive sauces.

NCL America Changes

Pride of Aloha is leaving the Hawaii cruise market on May 11.

Today NCL confirmed itineraries through 2010 on the only U.S. flaged ship sailing, Pride of America. She will sail every Saturday from Honolulu.

Following a 14-day drydock in Hawaii from April 26 to May 10, Pride of America will sail with a change in order of ports including an overnight in Nâwiliwili, Kauai; an afternoon cruise of the Nâpali Coast; Hilo, Hawaii; an evening sail by Mount Kîlauea; Kona, Hawaii; and an overnight in Kahului, Maui.

Carnival Cruises and Kids

Carnival Cruise Lines introduced "Circle C" for the 12- to 14-year-old age group, with new clubs, a full schedule of activities and staff. The program complements Camp Carnival, for younger kids, and Club 02, for 15- to 17-year-olds.

The new Circle C facilities include a dance floor with a high-tech sound and lighting system, large plasma screen televisions for movies and music videos, and a touch-screen jukebox. Events include sports, water games, late-night movies and ‘swimming under the stars’ pool parties.

Circle C facilities are already in place on Carnival Legend, Pride, Victory and Valor with Carnival Imagination, Inspiration, Liberty, Fantasy, Paradise and Glory scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008. The balance of the fleet is to be completed by 2010.

Carnival expects to host 600,000 kids fleetwide this year.

Princess Cruises took steps to streamline the traditional ‘hurry up and wait’ disembarkation process!

Instead of instructing passengers to listen to for announcements for their luggage tag color to be called, Princess Cruises is now assigning a time and place to gather on the final morning.

Passengers are then escorted to the gangway by a staff member, eliminating the guesswork as to the actual time passengers will disembark. According to Princess the new process gives passengers ‘a more gracious send-off.’

Clients now receive a letter the day before the end of the cruise that outlines their designated time to meet in an assigned public room, depending on their return air arrangements.

Positive feedback is the "word", thus reducing congestion in the ship’s atrium and creating a more relaxed flow for breakfast.

The program is being rolled out fleetwide.

On February 18, 2008 cruise ships sailing from U.S. ports will be required to transmit passenger and crew manifests to Customs and Border Protection no later than one hour prior to sailing.

This means passengers must be checked in and on board at least 60 minuets prior to departure. However, some lines are setting earlier times to ensure compliance.

Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International have been advising passengers who have not checked in online ahead of time to complete the process at the pier at least two hours before sailing time. Those who are not checked in and aboard ship 90 minutes before departure will not be permitted to sail.

Oceania Cruises is requiring passengers on Regatta voyages from Miami, currently the line’s only U.S. departures, to be aboard 90 minutes ahead of sailing time.

Most companies already urge customers to submit required identification data such as birth date, nationality and passport or identification document number after they make final payment and well in advance of sailing, by completing online forms.

Holland America Line is asking passengers to complete online check-in 30 days prior to departure, and Princess Cruises requests no later than 45 days in advance. Celebrity and Royal Caribbean ask for the online information no less than three days prior to the cruise.

Also, as of January 31, 2008 oral declaration of citizenship will no longer be accepted by Customs and Border Protection. All travelers, including U.S. citizens, arriving at U.S. sea (and land) ports of entry must present a document proving citizenship and government-issued identification.

New Regional Menus for Holland America Line

Master chef Rudi Sodamin has created new menus for Holland America Line that feature regional specialties reflecting each ship’s itinerary.

Mexico and Caribbean menus are the first to debut on ships sailing those itineraries. Fresh fish is brought on board in the Caribbean and Mexico along with local produce such as chayote, bread fruit, guava and fresh Mexican chiles.

Rudi Sodamin is developing new menus for Northern and Southern Europe, among other destinations. European dining choices will include prosciutto and coppa from Italy, Spanish tapas, Mediterranean olive oils and produce, artisanal cheeses and Norwegian salmon. Alaskan sailings will continue to feature wild local seafood.

Boy am I hungry now....

Waikiki 2007

Most of my travels take me to "new" places. Most of the time I travel to gather information to bring back and tell you all about it. Just this past weekend, I had the chance to visit Hawaii for both business and pleasure. Really!

My journey to Hawaii took me to the island of Oahu, the heart of Hawaii. My wife, Chris and I stayed at the Kahala Hotel and Resort about 10 minutes west of Waikiki Beach. A very quite location with a beautiful beach. The hotel was paradise - Service, food and accommodations. I am only sorry that my stay was only 3 days!! Who am I to complain...

My short visit at the Kahala Hotel and Resort allowed me enough time to participate in the DOLPHIN QUEST. Yes I got to swim with a dolphin, learn about their lifestyle and how lovely a bottlenose dolphin can be. See for yourself!

To my point about "new". Two of the nights we were invited for dinner downtown in the Waikiki Beach Area. My last visit to Waikiki was over 20 years ago and BOY HAS IT EVER CHANGED! What I recall long ago, was a very busy, run down overrated beach/shopping area. WRONG!

Waikiki Beach has grown up and become a bustling paradise of its own. With shopping galore at the ABC stores for your everyday items. Shop at some of the best know names in quality merchandise - like COACH, ROLEX, BURBERRY to name but a few. Great restaurants such as Roy's Waikiki, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and many more to meet any palates desire.

One point of interest that needs to be shared with all of you - the new WAIKIKI BEACH WALK. The most exciting shopping, dining and entertainment district. Its streets are lined with flame lite torches while music is played and people are enjoying talking, window shopping and taking in the sites and smells of exotic flavors. Its all coming to life at Waikiki Beach Walk.

Queen Elizabeth - Once again!

Cunard Line has agreed to build a new 2,092–passenger ocean liner. The 92,000gt vessel, to be called Queen Elizabeth, will be the second largest Cunarder ever built and is scheduled to enter service in the autumn of 2010.

In making the announcement, Cunard says, ‘Cunard already owns and operates the two most famous ocean liners in the world, Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2,and a third - Queen Victoria - is due to be named by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, in December of this year.

Cunard will once again become a three-ship fleet so soon after the departure of the much-celebrated QE2 in November next year.

Queen Elizabeth will fly the Red Ensign with her homeport Southampton, as is the case with the other ships in the Cunard fleet.

Club Med Goes Upscale?

I just returned from Cancun and a stay at CLUB MED. Now before you start wondering why would one want to travel to Cancun and stay at Club Med? Let me tell you the story.

Long ago, the idea of Club Med was for singles to gather and play on the beach, take in some sun and enjoy a week of relaxation. Over the years many people who have been to a Club Med know what I am speaking about. For those who have never been, have not tried this vacation because of what they might have heard from those who have gone.

Hold on to your hat! CLUB MED HAS CHANGED! Yes, they have invested many millions of dollars into upgrading their resorts in Cancun (re-opened in Nov of 2006), re-opening Ixatpa Pacific this Dec and upgrading Punta Cana as we speak.

Club Med is going after the family market in a BIG way. Each resort has added a teen section fit with video games, computers and a social lounge to meet other teens. This is in addition to the mini-clubs and baby clubs that are already in place.

Here is the kicker - These three resorts have SUITES with amenities that are not matched at any other all -inclusive resort in Mexico or the Caribbean. I can say this with the knowledge of a first hand experience having stayed in a suite this past week in Cancun. From the moment I was greeted at the airport to the check-in my every wish was handled with a genuine smile!

I will be the first to tell you that in my 26 years of selling travel, never have I stayed at Club Med and can only say that wished I had. Well now I am glad that the chance was there and I can not wait to share my next visit with my family. (Hope to see Ixatapa Pacific in April 2008)

If you are like me and enjoy a cruise because of what if offers - STOP! You need to now add Club Med into your vacation plans. The locations of each club, the food and service and endless activities are second to none. Of course if doing nothing at all is your game. FINE! Club Med has that too.

Alaska - the way to get it all!

Holland America Line will offer 29 cruise tours in Alaska and the Yukon next year. Ranging from 10 to 20 days, the programs combine a northbound or southbound cruise and land travel via the domed McKinley Explorer railcars and custom-built, highway Explorer Coaches.

Introduced in 2007, the luxury Explorer Coaches hold 45 seats, providing 50% more leg room than the 54-seat version.

Optional cruise tour excursions include a self-drive Jeep tour, wilderness jet boat safari and helicopter flight-seeing with a glacier landing in Denali National Park. Also offered are hiking in Tombstone Park, dog sledding in Skagway, sport fishing in Ketchikan and river rafting in Kluane National Park.

The 2008 itineraries and optional excursions encompass 14 national parks and wilderness areas. Most feature Denali National Park stays, and 18 of the cruise tours offer ‘Double Denali’ – two nights at a classic wilderness lodge near the park’s gates.

A good time was had by all

Just over a week ago, my family and I returned from one great vacation aboard Mariner of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ship. What made me do it - besides the normal, having to be with the family! Just kidding...

For years, I have been telling and selling our clients of what a pleasure to sail aboard RCCL that I had to go myself. Keep in mind - I only had been on their ships for short 2-3 day travel agent specials, which of course got me in the mood for more. IT WORKED!

Bad news. 7 days is not enough to fully benefit from all there is to do. Our itinerary was a perfect mix of days at sea (2) and ports of call (4).

On board service was just what the doctor ordered. Friendly service, spacious cabins and very good food. I personally recommend Portofino (optional dining venue and has a small cover charge) for a great meal and perfect atmosphere. Very good wine list too.

So if you want lots of activies (Rock Climbing wall, ice skating, mini g0lf, basketball and ping pong or quite relaxing times to read a book, get sum sun or watch the world go by. RCCL'S Mariner of the Seas has is all.

Soon you will be able to choose a traditional pre-set seating and dining time or a flexible, open seating schedule.
